The Status of Physician Assistants (Physician Assistant) and medical and legal problems

Abstract
Physical assistant, such as physician associate(PA), advanced practice registered nurse, is defined a kind of healthcare professional who is licensed to practice medicine as part of a team with physicians, and system of PA is different in each country. Although PA is being carried out legally in the country, there still is a lot of controversy. The PA profession was first proposed in the United States in the 1960s. This study aim to search to PA systems in other countries and investigate whether there is a problem in PA in Korea. Although implementation of the system is different in each country, the PA must have a primary relationship on file with a collaborative physician supervisor under depending on the specific laws and PAs have their own medical licenses with distinct of medical practice in US. But there has still not been legally recognized in Korea. There are many educational programs which are graduate programs based on medical education in US, UK, and Canada. In Korea, there is no training program for PAs but many clinical assistants are in charge of the PA role and this is always facing a legal issue. In order to solve this problem, there has to discuss each group such as doctor, nurse, and health government and establishment for the legalization of the PA system and an exact description of their duties.
